Matthäus Merian der Ältere (* 22. September 1593 in Basel; † 19. Juni 1650 in Langenschwalbach) war ein schweizerisch-deutscher Kupferstecher und Verleger. Nach seinem Tod übernahmen seine beiden Söhne Matthäus und Caspar den Verlag und gaben unter dem Namen Merian Erben seine Werke weiter heraus. (wikipedia)
