Pincers

Pincers are a hand tool used in many situations where mechanical advantage is required to pinch, cut or pull an object. Pincers are "first-class" levers, differing from pliers. The concentration of force is either to a point, or to an edge perpendicular to the length of the tool. This allows pincers to be brought close to a surface, often required when working with nails.

Carpenter´s pincers are typically used for removing nails, or possibly other objects, from other materials.

If the pincers have parallel cutting edges, perpendicular to the length of the tool, the pincers are often called end-nippers or end-cutters. In carpentry, they are often used both to cut nails close to a surface or to remove old nails from wood.
