Die Feldlerche gehörte früher zu den häufigsten Vögeln der Feldlandschaft. Aufgrund der zunehmenden Nutzungsintensivierung ist sie in den letzten Jahren vielerorts selten geworden. Die Art ist ein typischer Bodenbrüter und legt ihre Eier in eine selbstgescharrte Mulde, die mit feinem pflanzlichen Material ausgekleidet wird.
