Description

The Hungarian word for recorder (furulya) was first recorded in the Old Gradual published in 1636. The 17th century appearance of the word suggests that around that time a new type of duct flute was adopted by Hungarians from neighbouring ethnic groups, and this new instrument supplanted the earlier end-blown flutes and lingual pipes called in Hungarian tilinkó and süvöltő.
