Das Objekt ist eine Leihgabe des Museums für Ur- und Frühgeschichte Potsdam. Die Prägemaschine wurde im Schutt des im II. Weltkrieg zerstörten Palais Barberini im Potsdamer Stadtzentrum gefunden. Dort hatten mehrere Vereine ihre Räume.
