Der regelbarer Vorwiderstand wurde zum gezielten Beheizen von elektrischen Lötkolben verwendet. Die Wärmeleistung des im Normalfall direkt an 220V anzuschließende Lötkolben, wird mit diesem Vorwiderstand kontrollieret reduziert und so die Temperatur an das zu lötende Objekt angepasst.
