Durch die komplizierten Trägerformen beim Bau eines Luftschiffes mussten alle Bauteile in Handarbeit zusammengenietet werden. Die Kopfform der Nietzange wurde der Nietstelle angepasst. Auf diese Weise wurden bei LZ 129 „Hindenburg“ etwa 5,5 Millionen Nieten verbaut. Die Werkzeugmacherei der Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH fertigte die Nietzangen auch für andere Firmen an.
