Das Bild von Lord Lovat entstand als sich dieser auf dem Weg zu seiner eventuellen Exekution befand. Der Lord schreibt deshalb gerade an seinen Memoiren. Hogarth hat ihn als einen Psychopathen dargestellt, der keinerlei Reue zeigt. Sein verschlagener Gesichtsausdruck vermittelt sogar eher das Gegenteil.
