Dargestellt ist der Blick von der Lagune im Süden von Venedig Richtung Norden auf den Palazzo Ducale (rechts) und den Campanile von San Marco (links). Die Kuppel von San Marco ist im Hintergrund zu erkennen. Der Stich gibt die Festivitäten zu Christi Himmelfahrt wider. Auf dem Wasser befinden sich unzählige geschmückte Gondeln. Vor dem Palazzo Ducale ist der Bucintoro (auch: Bucentaur; in der Bildunterschrift: Bucentaurus; dt: die Goldene Barke) zu sehen - das Prachtschiff des Dogen. Dieses Fest war nach dem Karneval eines der wichtigsten Feste und wurde bis 1796 praktiziert.
