The Greek symposion, the drinking party, is an aristocratic form of socialising. It represents a luxury set apart from daily life. This is not only reflected in the architectural features required for it; whoever could afford to cede a room of the house used it for their revelry. This practice was also adopted by the Etruscans.
To draw the wine from the large, representative mixing jug (kratér) or mixing kettle (dînos), a jug (oînochoe) was used, from which drinking vessels were also poured. In addition, there was also the ladle. The sieve filtered out the remains of the spices and resins that refined the wine. (AVS)
