Description

Pidryznik is an element of priests' clothing. It is a long, heel-length shirt with narrow sleeves. It was worn under the vestments (ryzy). Its lower edge (lyshtvy) was especially magnificently decorated, which peeked out from under the outer clothing. This yellow silk undermost vestment was made in the second half of the 19th century, but is decorated with the earlier period embroidery. Such cases were typical for church clothing. Ancient fabrics, clothes, exquisite embroidered items or their details were very valuable. They were handed over as expensive donations to churches, where they were remade into liturgical vestments.
