Die ausgestellte Maschine wurde im Ammoniakwerk Merseburg (später Leuna-Werke) in der CO-Synthesegaswäsche eingesetzt. Sie diente als Einspritzpumpe für Kupferlauge. Die vorliegende Einheit einer Zwillingsdampfmaschine mit den von ihr angetriebenen zwei Einspritzpumpen (Plungerpumpen) ist eine maschinentechnische Besonderheit. Die klassische Bauart besteht aus einer Antriebsmaschine (Dampfmaschine) und einer parallel liegenden Arbeitsmaschine (Plungerpumpe).
