Hlodosy’s treasure was accidentally found in 1961 by residents of a village in the Kirovohrad region (the central part of Ukraine). Somewhat damaged and scattered decorations were brought to the museum. Perhaps this ornament originally consisted of a chain with a central medallion and several pendants of various shapes. The gold medallion has the crescent-shape of a three-horned lunnytsia with the horns pointing downwards. Pendants are attached to the ends of the horns of the lunnytsia. Amber inserts have been preserved in two of them. In Roman times and during the early Middle Ages, crescent-shaped ornaments (lunnytsia) were spread from the Pyrenees to the Urals and from Scandinavia to the Black Sea. They were also used as harness decorations. They were eagerly worn by women. However, this pendant has unusual dimensions for female jewelry or amulets of this type.
