Dieser Stahlstich zeigt den Averno-See. Im Vordergrund sieht man rechts Bäume und Land, dahinter Wasser. Am anderen Ufer steht eine Ruine, dahinter befinden sich hohe Berge.

Der Lago d’Averno liegt westlich von Neapel und ist in der römischen Mythologie, insbesondere bei Vergil, der Eingang zur Unterwelt.
