Eine Sonderform der Einvernahme von Tieren als Identifikationssymbol ist im altägyptischen Kulturkreis der Sphinx: Ein Mischwesen mit Löwenkörper und häufig einem Menschenkopf. Die meisten als Sphinx bezeichneten Statuen oder Reliefdarstellungen zeigen Pharao als Sonnengott. Auch Echnaton erscheint als Sphinx. Sonnenstrahlen berühren den Pharao erfüllen ihn symbolisch mit Leben. (AVS)
