Die Handtrommel ist hergestellt aus einem getrockneten Kürbis, bespannt mit Leder (gegerbter Tierhaut). Die Schauseite des Kürbisses ist mit Bänderschnitzereien verziert. Das Objekt hat Hans Schomburgk (1880-1967) während einer seiner Expeditionen durch die Republik Liberia 1923/24 erworben und stammt wohl von den Gola im westlichen Teil Liberias.
