Das analoge EH 237 wurde für sein Design mehrfach prämiert. Ericsson setzte für die Gestaltung seiner Modelle unter anderem auf die Zusammenarbeit mit Bang & Olufsen. Später gab es formgleiche Modelle für das digitale Netz. Im Herbst 1994 war das Gerät mit seinen 200 Gramm das leichteste und kleinste Handy auf dem Markt und verkaufte sich bis März 1995 mehr als eine Million Mal. Trotz zahlreicher Auszeichnungen und Ausstattungsdetails wurde dem Modell sein kleines Display zum Verhängnis: Nutzer mussten umständlich scrollen, um längere Textnachrichten zu lesen.
