Mit dem im März 1913 vorgestellten „Model E“ des Comptometers wurde das Problem von fehlerhaften Eingaben auf der Tastatur gelöst und dazu die rote „Key-Control-Taste“ eingeführt. Wird ein Tastendruck nicht bis zum Anschlag ausgeführt, so werden alle anderen Kolonnen der Tastatur gesperrt und der Benutzer bemerkt die Fehlbedienung bei Eingabe der Ziffer in der nächsten Kolonne. Zur Fehlerkorrektur muss man den fehlerhaften Anschlag wiederholen und dann mit der „Key-Control-Taste“ die Sperrung der Tastatur aufheben.
