Professor Max Hofmeier (*28.01.1854 Zudar auf Rügen; +03.04.1927 Unter-Grainau) war ein Freund und Kollege von Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in Würzburg. Hofmeier trägt auf dem Portrait eine Trauerbinde am linken Arm. Er schenkte das Bild zum Abschied der Röntgens aus Würzburg im März 1900. Es trägt auf der Rückseite die Widmung "Z.
