Das Blatt zeigt das Bildnis Alexander von Humboldts beim Studium der Pflanzen auf seiner Amerikareise nach einem Ölgemälde von Friedrich Georg Weitsch aus dem Jahr 1806. Das berühmte Gemälde des Universalgelehrten hängt in der Alten Nationalgalerie in Berlin. Der um 1807/08 entstandene Kupferstich wurde in Punktmanier hergestellt, alt gouachiert und auf Karton montiert. Bei dieser Grafik handelt es sich um ein seltenes Schabkunstblatt von Johann Joseph Freidhoff.
