Dieser sogenannte Paradedegen gehörte als Eigentumswaffe einem Angehörigen des Ulanen-Regiments Hennings von Treffenfeld (Altmärkisches Nr. 16). Das Regiment bestand aus 5 Eskadronen und war in den altmärkischen Garnisons-Städten Salzwedel und Gardelegen stationiert. Solche Waffen konnten von unteren Dienstgraden auf eigene Kosten erworben werden. Sie dienten nicht als Kampfwaffe, sondern wurden zur Repräsentation bei gesellschaftlichen Anlässen getragen oder als Erinnerungsobjekt nach der Dienstzeit zu Hause zur Schau gestellt.
