It lies 14 miles (23 km) southwest of Leeds, west of Wakefield and north of Sheffield. As well as 24 miles (39 km) northeast of Manchester. It is the administrative centre of the wider metropolitan borough of Kirklees.
Huddersfield is near the confluence of the River Colne and the River Holme.
