Gmina Pieńsk, and stands on the east bank of the Lusatian Neisse river, which forms the border between Poland and Germany.
The town lies approximately 11 kilometres (7 mi) north of Zgorzelec, and 140 kilometres (87 mi) west of the regional capital Wrocław. As of 2019[update], it has a population of 5,828.
