Herodotus records the entire Gulf of Alexandretta as Marandynian Bay (Ancient Greek: Μυριανδρικὸς κόλπος), after Myriandrus. (Later classical geographers would subsequently name the bay after nearby Issus.) Stephanus of Byzantium also called it Marandynian gulf.
