Description

Der Stecher Israhel van Meckenem (1440/50-1503) zählt neben Schongauer zu den frühen Meistern des Kupferstichs in der Phase seiner Emanzipation zum selbständigen künstlerischen Medium. Mehr als 500 Stiche umfasst sein Werk.
Die Beweinung ist Teil der sog. Großen Passion des Künstlers, die als Hauptwerk gilt.
