Description

Der Stich ist nach einer Zeichnung des Prager Hofmalers Bartholomäus Spranger (1546-1611) entstanden. Die runde Bildmotiv wird von einer lateinischen Inschrift gerahmt: "Nemo suis nimium confidat viribus, ausis/ Nemo suis temerè; Docet hoc Holophenis amarus/ Exitus ..." (Keiner vertraue zu sehr seinen Kräften, keiner bildlings seinen Unternehmungen; das lehrt das bittere Ende des Holofernes ...").
