Description

Chrysotil wird auch als "Weißer Asbest", "Serpentin-Asbest" oder "Faserserpentinit" bezeichnet und gehört zur Gruppe der Serpentinite.
Chrysotil besteht fast ausschließlich aus dem natürlich vorkommenden, faserförmigen Silikat-Mineral Asbest.
Es bildet lange, innen hohle Fasern, die chemisch sehr stabil und feuerfest sind. Aus diesem Grund ist Chrysotil jahrzehntelang als Baustoff verwendet worden, bis man die gesundheitsschädliche Wirkung auf den Menschen erkannte.

Dieses Exemplar stammt aus dem Kanton Graubründen in der Schweiz.
