Das Gemälde zeigt das Tangermünder Tor umgeben von Bäumen und Sträuchern. Die Zinnen des Tors überragen die Baumkronen. Links im Bild sieht man zwischen den Bäumen ein kleines, weißes Häuschen, davor steht ein rotes Mäuerchen aus Ziegeln.
Der Himmel ist wolkenlos.

Auf der Rückseite befindet sich folgende Bezeichnung: Tangermünder Tor um 1870, von v. Hagen gemalt.
