Description

"Cameroon: Banguro expedition, parading in Mandame, 1900, autumn".

From the general medical report of Georg Ipscher for the years 1900/1901: "The clothing of the coloureds consists of kuki (tunic and trousers), blue leg wraps, canvas shoes with rubber soles and a red cap. The white members of the protection force have a white dress uniform consisting of a tunic and trousers, and a khaki service suit. Their footwear are white canvas shoes with leather soles and yellow leather lace-up shoes with 2 leather or canvas gaiters. It would be very much desirable to ensure that the white shoes are worn at least 3 cm above the ankle to ensure better mosquito protection in the evening. Felt hat and cap. The felt hat is perfectly adequate for marches in the bush, while the pith helmet is essential in the grasslands. The cap can only be worn in the late evening and early morning."
