Der Schützenpanzerwagen des Typs BTR 40 sollte während der Einweihung des Panzerdenkmals in Kienitz am 24. Oktober 1970 vor allem den "Schutz der DDR durch die Sowjetarmee" symbolisieren. Die drei Buchstaben BTR stehen für gepanzerter Transporter, in russisch bronjetransportjor.
