Der begeisterte Alpinist Karl Groß, protestantischer Pfarrer aus Blüthen (Brandenburg) besuchte um 1932 den fotogenen Gipfel des Mangart in den Julischen Alpen. Aufnahmen von Gebirgsformationen bilden mit den größten Bestand im Foto-Nachlass von Karl Groß - je karger die Landschaft desto besser. Landschaft als Idyll hat ihn kaum interessiert.
