Der Blüthener Hilfsprediger Karl Groß machte während seiner alpinen Bergwanderungen zahlreiche Fotografien. Den Aletschgletscher in den Berner Alpen (Schweiz) nahm er vom Eggishorn aus auf. Dieses Bild gehört zu den wenigen im Nachlass, die nicht exakt datiert sind. Vermutlich entstand es um 1930.
