Die gleicharmige Balkenwaage
( lat. bilanx oder libra; engl. balance; ital. bilancia) ist die älteste Form überhaupt. Der Drehpunkt befindet sich genau in der Mitte des Waagebalkens. Auf die eine Waagschale wird das zu wägende Gut gelegt, auf die andere das zur Erreichung des „Gleichgewichts“ oder Equilibriums die dem Gewicht entsprechenden Stücke.
