Die Medayille entstand für Ehrungen seitens des Literaturmuseums Theodor Storm, Heilbad Heiligenstadt: Theodor Storm war von 1856 bis 1864 als Kreisrichter in Heiligenstadt tätig. Hier schrieb er einige seiner Novellen. Der Ort selbst bildete einen der Schauplätze in Storms Geschichte "Pole Poppenspäler".
