Description

The shawl is worn exclusively by women whose husbands have hosted a Feast of Merit. When a family hosts a feast of merit, mithun (a species of buffalo) are sacrificed and the entire village is invited. Afterwards, a memorial stone or memorial post is erected in front of the house. This increases the family’s social prestige.
