Es gibt 7 Kota-Kolonien in den Nilgiribergen, die alle stark autonom voneinander leben. Kota sind von der Tradition her bekannt für ihre handwerklichen Fähigkeiten wie Töpferei, Terrakotta, Schnitzerei.
