Anthropomorphic carved figure as basket decoration
This ornamental figure was used to decorate a headhunter basket. The three anthropomorphic heads indicate that the basket belongs to a successful headhunter. The Sangloi and Joboka are now called Wancho, Nocte or Konyak Naga in present-day Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Ehlers either procured the object from Samuel E. Peal or the objects collected by Peal were added to the Ehlers collection.
Historic index card states: “Ornaments of Dzhoboka and Sangloi men".
