Description

Basket of a warrior used as a ceremonial basket, for example during headhunting dances. At the time of acquisition, the ethnic group was called Banpara like the placename, but today the groups living there call themselves Wancho, Nocte or in Assam, Konyak Naga. The basket is made of a weave of plant fibres, decorated with tufts of grass, boar tusks, bird skins and a wooden head with tattoos. This indicates that the owner was a successful headhunter.
