Vorderseite: Auf glattem Grund im Zentrum das überkrönte Monogramm W= Wilhelm, darunter "Für Pflichttreue im Kriege", Randumschrift in Fraktur "Gott war mit uns ihm sei die Ehre", Rückseite: Im Zentrum Eisernes Kreuz mit Strahlen in den Winkeln der Kreuzarme, in der Mitte die Jahreszahlen 1870/71 von einen Eichenlabkrant umgeben, wurde über 400.000 mal verliehen, auch außerhalb Deutschland
