Dieses Fragment zeigte einst die Jungfrau und Kind; es wurde 1945, am Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges, schwer beschädigt. Nur das Gesicht der Jungfrau hat überlebt, das dem Objekt eine wesentliche Dimension verleiht, die an afrikanische Masken und ägyptischen Porträts erinnert.

Face of the Virgin Mary (fragment)

This fragment was once part of a Virgin and Child; it was severely damaged in 1945, at the end of the Second World War. Only the face of the Virgin has survived, conferring to the object an essential dimension that recalls African masks and Egyptian portraits.
