Description

Dargestellt wird eine Szene des Gefechts bei Rippach, welches am 1. Mai 1813, einen Tag vor der Schlacht bei Großgörschen, stattfand; fast im Bildzentrum ragt der historische Gasthof "Zum weißen Schwan" auf; links kommen russische Reiter in das Bild; im unteren Drittel der Bildmitte liegt vor einem russischen Reiter auf braunem Pferd der tödlich verwundete Marschall Bessières; rechts kommt französische Infanterie auf die Reiterei zu; dahinter erscheint die Dorfsilhouette; der Hintergrund wird vom blauen, bewölkten Himmel ausgefüllt.
