Description

Dies ist eine Runzelkoralle Ketophyllum cf. cylindricum WEDEKIND.

Diese Korallen waren häufige Bewohner der großen Riffe im Paläozoikum. Sie sind wichtige Faziesanzeiger, die auf ruhiges, kalkhaltiges Wasser hindeuten. Wie die meisten Korallen ernährte sich Ketophyllum durch Filtration, nahm also Nährstoffe und Plankton aus dem vorbeiströmenden Meerwasser auf.

Da die Gattung sehr artenreich war, kann sie heute gut als Leitfossil verwendet werden.

Alter: ca. 429 Mio. Jahre, Klinteberg-Formation, ob. Homerium, Wenlock, Silur
Fundort: Djupvik/Gotland
