Description

Garve, Christian (Beslau 1742-1798 Breslau), Philosoph, Schriftsteller 1768-72 Philosophieprofessor in Leipzig, später in Breslau als Privatgelehrter; philosophische, soziologische und publizistische Schriften.

Brustbild nach links hinter gerahmtem, ovalem Wandausschnitt; darunter Schrifttafel.

Frontispiz zu: Allgemeine Deutsche Bibliothek, 1791, 101. Bd., 1. St.

Vorlage: Hüftbild nach links, die Rechte im Rock, entstanden 1773 im Auftrag Reichs, Kustodie der Universität Leipzig (Berckenhagen Nr. 424)

Viele von Hennes Porträtkupfern entstanden wie das vorliegende als Frontispiz zu Nicolais "Allgemeiner Deutscher Bibliothek".
Das spätere von Graffs Bildnissen Garves wurde bis Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts etliche Male gestochen.
