Description

This type of house served as a shrine. Some of these shrines were small and could even be transported. Usually (but not always) such a shrine sits on a frame. Offerings such as betel nuts or taro could be placed inside through the small openings in the shrine. These offerings could be dedicated to the village god or were intended to protect against illness, for example.
