Description

Violett gefärbter Quarz [SiO2] wird Amethyst genannt. Verantwortlich für die violette Färbung sind Defekte im Kristallgitter, die auf eine Kombination zweier Faktoren zurückgehen: Den Einbau von oxidiertem, also dreiwertigem Eisen, und radioaktive Bestrahlung, die diese Atome ionisiert.

In diesem Hohlraum bildet Amethyst eine randliche "Tapete", auf die orange-braune Kritalle von Calcit (= Kalkspat) [CaCO3] aufgewachsen ist.
