Description

Epidot (Ca2(Fe,Al)Al2[O|OH|SiO4|Si2O7]) wird den Gruppensilikaten zugeordnet, enthält aber auch strukturell isolierte Kieselsäure-Tetraeder in seinem Gitter. Der Name leitet sich von der leichten Winkel-Zugabe (gr. epidosis) ab, die gegenüber der ersten Beschreibung der Kristalle nötig wurde.

Die Knappenwand in Salzburg ist weltberühmt für die wohl weltbesten Kristallstufen dieses Minerals.
