Description

An earring is a ring with a pendant. In the lower part of the ring there is an openwork decoration that resembles a three-horned crescent-shaped pendant "lunnytsia". An elongated pendant is attached to the lower part. It consists of sockets strung one under the other. Each of them consists of six balls.
A miniature ring with a small ball is soldered to each larg ball.
Such ornaments are called "earrings of the Volyn type", "Tokai’s type", "Yekimautsky" or "cluster earrings". They are known in treasures, burials and hillforts. In some burials, earrings were found sewn onto leather "headphones" surrounded by other, simpler types of temple jewelry. In some cases two different earrings in one outfit are known.
Earrings of this type spread to East Slavic lands from the Northern Adriatic and the Middle Danube as a result of the resettlement of groups of the Middle Danube population.
The earring was among the finds from a double burial discovered in the former yard of the Church of the Tithes (now the territory of NMHU).
Most of the finds belonged to rich female headwear. Only the remains of the iron covering of the shield and the war horse buried in the same grave indicate that this is the burial of a druzhynnyk– a warrior with a woman.
