A large silver brooch has an amethyst geode inset. The use of raw minerals was not popular in Ukrainian jewellery art of that period. Geodes and slices of raw minerals appeared in pieces of jewellery of French jeweller Jean Vendome in the 1950s.
The dimensions of the inset are emphasized by the stylized floral ornament of the body of the brooch. The silver filigree is asymmetrical, which gives a sense of dynamics. The grain, scattered like dew on silver, enhances the decorative effect of the jewellery piece.
The author’s jewellery art in Ukraine was oppressed by the totalitarian government of the USSR. Since the beginning of the 1970s the jeweller Vitaly Khomenko has been reviving the author’s jewellery art of Ukraine. The filigree technique was one of the first techniques that the jeweller began to use.
