Carpet or Kilim

The Podillia horizontal flatweave carpet is made in the weft weaving technique. It is decorated with stylized geometric and floral ornament. Its composition consists of strips with ornaments placed in pairs on both sides of the central one. However, the craftsman did not keep clear symmetry, changed the color and shape of the elements, added story scenes.
The walls of living quarters were usually decorated with such carpets. They were placed above the beds or benches. They were woven with the horizontal loom from thick hand-made woolen threads.
