"Gold circular plates with an imprinted image of a bearded male head in profile belong to the so-called ""coin type of plates"". Such items served as costume decorations: the Scythians decorated their clothes, headdresses and even shoes with gold plates of various shapes with imprinted images.
There were two tombs in the Melitopol mound, where these plates come from. In the first, where a noble Scythian woman and her slave were buried, about 4,000 gold ornaments were preserved – sewn-on plates of more than 40 types, pendants, earrings, rings, beads, buttons. The second burial (central) belonged to a Scythian warrior. Despite the fact that it was looted, the gorytos with a gold cover with scenes of Achilles’ life and a belt sewn-on with gold plates were found there."
